Liberty is a city in Clay County Missouri with a population of around 29,149. The city was settled in 1830 and it was named after the American Ideal of Liberty. During the 1830s, the Liberty Landing was a steamboat dock located along the Missouri River. The steamboats fired cannons when they were close to Liberty. This gave the merchants and the town’s people time to reach the dock before the boat arrived.
